Introduction:
Sustainable urban development as a global challenge is also of particular importance in Iran. Iran, with a population of over 80 million people and densely populated cities such as Tehran and Isfahan, faces problems such as air pollution, traffic, and indiscriminate and non-standard construction. For this reason, sustainable urban development is considered as an important goal in the country's development plans. One of the important aspects of sustainable urban development is energy efficiency. Since most of the energy used in cities is unsustainable, energy efficiency can be effective in reducing energy costs and reducing environmental pollutants.
Therefore, in this article, the impact of new technologies on Iran's economy and sustainable urban development, especially in the field of energy efficiency, is discussed. For example, the investigation of startup companies, the use of renewable energy, the improvement of construction technologies and the reduction of energy wastage in buildings, and the investigation of their impact on Iran's economy and sustainable urban development are carried out.
Iran's economy is one of the largest economies in the Middle East region, and according to the information of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, Iran is the 22nd largest economy in the world in terms of GDP based on purchasing power parity, and based on nominal GDP according to the World Bank list, Iran's economy ranks 50th among countries in the world. The negative GDP growth of -4.9% (estimated by the International Monetary Fund) and with 2,422 US dollars per capita is ranked 156th among the 213 countries surveyed by the World Bank.
Iran's economy is mostly based on the export of oil and gas and agriculture. However, recently, the industry and services sector have also contributed to economic development despite the economic sanctions on Iran, but this country still faces economic challenges. For sustainable economic development, Iran is looking for economic transformation, improving the private sector, attracting foreign investment, and developing non-oil production and exports.
In the urban sector, sustainable urban development can help economic growth and improve the quality of life of citizens. In Iran, cities play an important role in economic development as the main centers of economic, industrial and service activities and centers of innovation and technology. However, problems such as traffic and air and environmental pollution have become challenges that must be managed using sustainable urban development strategies.
For example, using new technologies to optimize energy consumption and better traffic management can help sustainable urban development in Iran.
Sustainable urban development in Iran can help improve the quality of life of citizens, protect the environment and improve the economic performance of cities. Despite the rapid growth of the urban population, improving the quality of life in Iranian cities is a big challenge. In order to better manage cities and protect the environment, implementing sustainable urban development projects can be helpful.
One of the basic challenges in the sustainable urban development of Iran is the management of water resources. The reduction of fresh water resources in the country and the lack of proper management of these resources have caused serious water problems in cities. To protect water resources, new technologies such as intelligent water control and increasing efficiency in water consumption can be used.
Also, traffic and air pollution have become challenges to be managed using sustainable urban development solutions. It is possible to help reduce traffic and air pollution in Iranian cities by optimizing the public transportation network, providing facilities for cycling and walking, and using electric cars instead of diesel and gasoline cars.
New and emerging technologies can have positive effects on Iran's economy and sustainable urban development. I will mention some of these effects below:
- Increasing productivity and production: Using new technologies, companies and businesses can improve their activities and increase productivity. This increase in productivity can help economic growth and play an effective role in sustainable urban development.
- Revolution in the transportation sector: By using new technologies such as electric and self-driving cars, it is possible to reduce traffic and improve travel time in the city. This development can lead to reducing air pollution, improving the health of citizens and reducing energy consumption.
- Energy stabilization: Using new technologies in the energy sector can help stabilize energy and reduce energy consumption in cities. For example, the use of smart lighting systems and air conditioning systems based on artificial intelligence can improve the quality of life of citizens and reduce energy consumption.
- Economic development and entrepreneurship: New technologies can play an important role in economic development and entrepreneurship in cities.
d. For example, the growth of startup companies and the increase of economic activities related to new technologies can help create jobs and economic growth of cities. With the growth of startup companies and transformation in the technology sector, cities can become innovation and technology centers and contribute to sustainable urban development. Also, the use of new technologies can help improve the quality of life of citizens, increase well-being and improve urban services.
However, to take full advantage of new and emerging technologies, there is a need for careful planning and coordination between the government, the private sector, and the scientific-research community. Also, there is a need to invest in training and improving knowledge and skills related to new technologies. According to these points, new technologies can help the sustainable urban and economic development of Iran.
Conclusion:
Sustainable urban development is a multi-dimensional challenge that requires cooperation and coordination between city managers, different strata of society and related scientists. Trying to reduce the negative effects on the environment and increase the quality of life of citizens is one of the important axes of sustainable urban development. In this regard, urban management, new technologies, energy efficiency and economic development can play an important role in achieving this goal. To achieve sustainable urban development in Iran, we need city officials, policy makers and social activists to implement comprehensive plans and necessary coordination according to the available conditions and resources. Also, it is very important to educate and increase citizens' awareness of the impact of new technologies on sustainable urban development and economic growth and its role in improving the quality of life.
